20 Trailblazing Women Filmmakers

Film Appreciation Series:

October 22 - November 19, 2025

Female directors offer the audience an unbiased and realistic image of women that aligns with their social status. Additionally, films directed by women are more often written by women and have more leading female characters than in films directed by male filmmakers. This course will address the greater recognition women directors are beginning to receive and honor 20 remarkable women who blazed the trail.

FILM ART: THE ORIGINS OF FILM

OCTOBER 24 - November 21, 2025

If you love film, then this course is for you. Film Art will help you learn more about film analysis, period genres, movements in film style, film production, and more, and will deepen your understanding and enjoyment of watching movies. 

Film Art is an introduction to evolution of cinema from 1895-2005. This course covers the contributions of the screenwriter, director, cinematographer, editor and composer. By the end of the course students will have a far better understanding of the process of filmmaking and how it relates to appreciating the history and evolution of cinema.

This course will be useful for the layman who wants to know more about film for personal enjoyment; or for the student hoping to enhance their college applications, and even for professionals who need to be more familiar and knowledgeable about the film-industry.

Introduction To Screenwriting

Workshop Series:

This 5-week course is perfect for newbie screenwriters! I'll teach you all the essential tools and lingo you need to write a kickass short film. Together, we'll turn your awesome idea into a first-draft screenplay. Don't sweat it, we'll start with the basics of visual storytelling. We'll break down story structure, theme, character, and conflict. Plus, our in-class discussions are a no-pressure zone where you'll get supportive feedback. We'll encourage you to convey your story through visuals instead of just relying on dialogue.

No Experience Necessary!

FEATURE SCREENWRITING: Workshop Series

This workshop is a total deep dive into writing killer feature film treatments. You'll learn all about story structure, creating awesome characters, crafting explosive conflicts, and writing dialogue that packs a punch. We'll break down the eight-sequence structure and the classic Hero's Journey, using them to build stories that really grab people. By following industry standards and getting super disciplined, you'll finish with a polished, full-length treatment—a perfect springboard to developing your treatment into a first draft screenplay in Feature Screenwriting II.

Course Length: 3-hours. 8 class meetings.
